Analysis of disc spring heat treatment process: Key technology to empower material properties

 

Heat treatment is the core process that imparts ideal mechanical properties to disc springs, directly determining the product's fatigue life, load-bearing capacity, and dimensional stability. 1、Quenching and tempering: building the foundation of spring steel strength

This is the standard and essential process for processing soft spring steel (e.g., 60Si2MnA, 50CrVA).

The purpose of the process is to obtain high strength martensitic structure by quenching, and then adjust toughness, eliminate internal stress and stabilize size by tempering, and finally obtain the best combination of elasticity and toughness of comprehensive mechanical properties.

Application scenario: This is the most widely used heat treatment scheme for manufacturing disc springs with high load and high fatigue life.

 

2、Stress relieving annealing: unlocking the potential of cold work materials

For rigid spring steel strip or wire, there is a high internal machining stress after cold forming.

Process purpose: Annealing at lower temperatures is intended to eliminate the internal stress caused by cold work hardening, stabilize the geometric size of the disc spring, and stabilize its elasticity without significantly reducing the strength of the material.

Application scenario: Mainly used for thin disc spring or dimension stabilization treatment after cold stamping.

3、Time strengthening: improve the performance of special alloy

This process is specifically designed for precipitation-hardened stainless steels (e.g., 630/17-4PH) and heat-resistant steels.

The purpose of the process is to make the material soft after solid solution treatment, which is easy to be processed and formed. Then, the alloying elements are precipitated in the form of very fine particles by aging treatment at a specific temperature, so as to significantly improve the strength and hardness of the material.

Application scenario: used to manufacture disc springs that need to maintain high strength in a corrosive environment or medium high temperature.

4、Solvent treatment: preparation for final strengthening

This is a preliminary process for the treatment of soft precipitation hardened stainless steel and nickel-based high temperature alloys.

Process purpose: The alloy is heated to a high temperature, so that various elements are fully dissolved into the matrix and form a uniform solid solution, and then quickly cooled (quenching) to fix it, so as to obtain a supersaturated, soft metastable structure, which is ready for subsequent aging strengthening.

Application scenario: It is an indispensable first process in the manufacture of high-end corrosion-resistant and high-temperature disc springs.
